Little Miracles

You have to weather the storm to find the silver lining.

No, I’m not talking about children. I just wanted to get that out of the way. Yes, I believe children are little miracles, but that’s not what this particular blog is about. This particular blog is about the little miracles in my life recently. Yes, I believe in miracles. I didn’t used to, but my Higher Power has shown me different. Let me explain…

In the midst of the storm…

For the last several months, I have barely been able to keep body and soul together, as they say. We were completely broke, I mean zero money, after the bills were partially paid. Prayer became my “bread of life”.

The first thing I want to tell you about is I forgot to pay the water bill last month. Yes. It completely slipped my mind. The water company, wanting their money, reminded me it was due or they would shut it off. It was nice of them to give me five days to do this. I wasn’t expecting any money for another two weeks.

The miracle!

Big boy gave me the money to pay our water bill. What a miracle that was! I couldn’t believe he had the extra money to do that!

The second thing I wanted to tell you about is mama wanting all these healthy (and expensive) foods. Yes, these foods she wants are healthy and would improve our health, but we can’t afford them. Anyway, I didn’t realize that two months ago and I bought these foods for her. We ran out of grocery money long before any money was expected to come in. I wound up not eating for nearly a week to keep food in the house for her. The next month, I bought less of them and let her know we couldn’t afford any more of them. I still had to go hungry for several days. This month, we are not buying anything expensive. We have to have food in the house for the whole month, not just part of it!

The next thing I want to tell you about is the truck. Our only transportation. Yes, you guessed it! It broke down, sort of… Let me explain. It would run just fine, once I got it started. However, I had to get a jump start to get it started. I had someone tell me it was the alternator (whatever that is!). I had someone else tell me it was the battery. How was I (a mechanical ignoramous) supposed to know which one it was? I never did figure that out.

The Miracle!

I called a friend and asked her to drive me around for all the errands I had to do and she said she would. I had the battery tested. It was a bad battery. My friend took me from store to store looking for the least expensive battery I could find. She is such a doll! She, also, took me around to pay all the bills I couldn’t pay online! What a great friend!

The last thing I’m going to whine about is Code Enforcement. They came by and told me I had a week to get my lawn mowed or they would give me a ticket. That is on top of the ticket I already have to pay from when I got pulled over last month! I couldn’t afford that, so I took out my lawn mower and we mowed a soaked lawn, through mud holes and all. Now, my lawn is mowed and the yard is dried out.

The Miracle!

I mowed my entire yard on two tanks of gas in my mower. Usually, I have to fill it three or four times when the grass is dry enough to mow. Somehow, with the grass wet and the mower working harder than it has in several years, I only used two tanks of gas!

These, to me, are small miracles. They brought me through to the point where I can see the end of the storm. I may not be out of it, yet, but I can see the end of it and that makes me smile.

As usual, I want to hear anything you have to say about this. Thank you for taking the time to read my post and, please, let me know your thoughts!

You have to weather the storm to find the silver lining.

You have to weather the storm to find the silver lining.

Guess what? That’s right! I’m the proud owner of dragon Naturally Speaking (a.k.a.: DNS). Have I already told you this? If I have, I’m sorry to repeat myself, but this is such a cool software!

Dragon Naturally Speaking Dictation

That’s right folks, it does to dictation. I know, right? It’s a speech to text software and, amazingly enough, it does it! Okay, enough of the drama. I am excited about it and it does to dictation. However, it’s a bit like a dog. Now, hold on. Before you go getting all excited, let me explain.

You get a dog. It doesn’t matter where you get the dog from or how you bring it home. You have a new dog. It may, or may not be, house trained. Either way, you and the dog have to train each other. That’s right, I said train each other. You have to teach the dog to let you know when it needs outside, but the dog has to train you to pay attention to when it needs outside. It’s the same way with DNS. You have to train it how you talk and it has to train you how it understands.

One more thing about DNS. You do have to read as you write to make sure that it puts the right word, with the right spelling, in the right place. I guess there’s just no replacing a human being. Well, at least not yet…

Dragon Naturally Speaking Email

Yeah, it does email. I’m still learning how that works, exactly. However, I’ve learned a thing or two about it. It will write the email for you. I just don’t have down all the commands on what to do where to go. Watch out when I do get those down though! I’ll be in email writing fool.

Dragon Naturally Speaking Internet

Who could live without the Internet? Well, not literally. Since I stay home and take care of mama (so that’s how you spell it…), my computer is where I work and play. I, also, have carpal tunnel syndrome in my wrists from typing so much. Therefore, typing can get really painful. For the first time in years, my wrists don’t hurt.

Back to the Internet, I can use DNS to surf the Internet. Researching a blog post, an article, or a particular thing for my fantasy writing. I have found it to be extremely useful while searching the Internet for this random piece of information or that one.

This may have sounded a lot like a commercial for Dragon naturally speaking. I can assure you, they have no idea I’m writing this. I think anyone who writes a lot, be it books or not, would benefit from this software. Just so you know, mine was a gift and was bought on eBay.

This is Chris Andrews Image and I have no rights to it at all!

This is Chris Andrews Image and I have no rights to it at all!

Before I start this post, I want to let you all know that I have some great stuff coming up! Oh! Yeah! I’ve got a new story I’m working on and you get to follow along! From idea, through part of the outline, the premise, and all the little tidbits I can share without giving it all away.

Shout out

First, I want to send a big shout out to Chris Andrews! He gave me an outline I can, not only understand, but I can follow it too!

Well, before you start thinking,’ Well, what’s the big deal about that?’ You should know I was a die hard pantser. A pantser is someone who starts writing the story without any idea of where it’s going. They learn along the way what’s going to happen.

This worked for me for many years, but, when my computer crashed, I lost the zest for writing. I know that sounds pretty “sensitive” of me. You have to understand, though. I lost one story nearly ready for publication, to novella’s is nearly ready for publication. This was a crushing blow, because it was all my fault. I was the idiot who did not back up my stuff. Let that be a lesson to you, make sure you backup everything you need.

A plotter, which is what I’ve become, is someone who plans their story out. This allows them to make changes to the story, where it doesn’t really make sense, before they write 12 pages on it. Yes, I have done this.

Past lives reborn

This is the working title of my new story. In order to find out more, you’ll have to keep following my blog. I know that was shameless advertising. But somebody’s gotta do it, right?

I would love to know what you think about this title, but be sure to give me feedback all throughout these blog posts. I’m counting on you to let me know when I’ve gone too far or if the story just sounds stupid.

You will never guess what I, finally, got recently. Oh! I’m too excited about it for words! I have wanted this for over three years and, now, I finally have it. I would love to give him a shout out, but I don’t have permission to use his name. He knows who he is, though.

Are you ready for this? Okay, here goes! Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking Home edition software! Yes! That’s right! That’s right! I’m using it right now. I’ve used it every day since I got it. It is the most useful writing tool I’ve ever gotten. Not many of you know this about me, but I have carpal tunnel syndrome in both my wrists. I have to wear braces when they hurt too bad which makes it hard to write. This software has been a savior in that area of my life.

You remember at the beginning of this post, when I said I would take you long with the writing journey of the story? The first couple of blog posts have, not only been written, but they’ve been scheduled for posting. That means, even if I get distracted or forget, you will still get the information.

As a side note

Mama gave me quite a scare this week. Starting Monday, she had some severe breathing problems. Finally convinced her to go to the emergency room on Thursday. We found out it was just her COPD flaring up. They gave her some new meds, which kinda sucks, but she is doing so much better.

School is out for Sportschick and  cowboy! Sports chick is in softball, to keep her busy. Cowboy is in T-ball to keep him busy. However, we all understand this is not going to be enough to keep them happy all summer long. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have to entertain a teenager and a young boy. Bigboy has started a new job, at a tire shop. This is great news! Now he has the find someone to watch his kids while he works. No latchkey kids for him. As I said before, this is a new relationship and I’m not sure I’m ready to babysit his kids, yet. Don’t get me wrong, they’re great kids! Just not sure how good of a sitter I am.

Thank you for following me along on this journey and I hope to hear from you. Without any comments below, I wonder if anyone reads my posts. So even if you just type “I read this”, I would feel a whole lot better.
