Outline Stalled

I got to the middle of the outline and had no more ideas for the coming scenes and sequences. Does this mean the idea isn’t a good one? Or does it mean I need to take a break from it?

I've been working too hard, it's time for a break!

I’ve been working too hard, it’s time for a break!

I think I will take a short break from it and write a few of the scenes. Then, I will return to it.

You know what that means, don’t you? You will get to find out a bit about what is going to happen in the book! Yay!

You have to weather the storm to find the silver lining.

You have to weather the storm to find the silver lining.

Guess what? That’s right! I’m the proud owner of dragon Naturally Speaking (a.k.a.: DNS). Have I already told you this? If I have, I’m sorry to repeat myself, but this is such a cool software!

Dragon Naturally Speaking Dictation

That’s right folks, it does to dictation. I know, right? It’s a speech to text software and, amazingly enough, it does it! Okay, enough of the drama. I am excited about it and it does to dictation. However, it’s a bit like a dog. Now, hold on. Before you go getting all excited, let me explain.

You get a dog. It doesn’t matter where you get the dog from or how you bring it home. You have a new dog. It may, or may not be, house trained. Either way, you and the dog have to train each other. That’s right, I said train each other. You have to teach the dog to let you know when it needs outside, but the dog has to train you to pay attention to when it needs outside. It’s the same way with DNS. You have to train it how you talk and it has to train you how it understands.

One more thing about DNS. You do have to read as you write to make sure that it puts the right word, with the right spelling, in the right place. I guess there’s just no replacing a human being. Well, at least not yet…

Dragon Naturally Speaking Email

Yeah, it does email. I’m still learning how that works, exactly. However, I’ve learned a thing or two about it. It will write the email for you. I just don’t have down all the commands on what to do where to go. Watch out when I do get those down though! I’ll be in email writing fool.

Dragon Naturally Speaking Internet

Who could live without the Internet? Well, not literally. Since I stay home and take care of mama (so that’s how you spell it…), my computer is where I work and play. I, also, have carpal tunnel syndrome in my wrists from typing so much. Therefore, typing can get really painful. For the first time in years, my wrists don’t hurt.

Back to the Internet, I can use DNS to surf the Internet. Researching a blog post, an article, or a particular thing for my fantasy writing. I have found it to be extremely useful while searching the Internet for this random piece of information or that one.

This may have sounded a lot like a commercial for Dragon naturally speaking. I can assure you, they have no idea I’m writing this. I think anyone who writes a lot, be it books or not, would benefit from this software. Just so you know, mine was a gift and was bought on eBay.

Imagine me jumping off the cliff without looking down. That's what this feels like!

Imagine me jumping off the cliff without looking down. That’s what this feels like!

I’ve stolen the work of two people and combined them… This makes an outline I can follow to make a great book. Chris Andrews gave me the basic outline and Randy Ingermanson – “the Snowflake Guy” gave me the outline for each scene.

Below, I’ve given you the basics of this outline. You can see where I put in the sequences from Chris Andrews. Under each one, I’ve added the outline for a singe scene. Yes, my chapters will have more than one scene. This will help me to stay on track.

This is where your premise goes. It’s a 25 word sentence that tempts people to read the blurb or the book.

I hope I didn’t overstep any boundaries with anyone. I tried to give credit where credit was due. If I did overstep boundaries, please, let me know and I will do what I can to fix it! I don’t want to cause anyone any grief…

Let me know what you think of this, as I am unsure of where this will lead me. I hope it will lead me to an awesome book! I have a good start with Chris Andrew’s Easiest-Ever Guide to Story Outlining!

I think my scenes will be improved, big time, using Randy Ingermanson – “the Snowflake Guy”s scene outline.

With that being said, I’m still bringing you along the ride of writing this story, but I won’t be revealing everything here! Ha Ha Ha! Nice try, you!

Let me know what you think of this outline. Would it work for you or do you, already, have one that works great for you? What do you see wrong with my outline? I would love to hear what you have to say!

Okay, here’s the update on my adventures with using The Easiest-Ever Guide to Outlining by Chris Andrews.  I have done the next part… I will continue this and keep you updated as I progress through it! I’m actually having a bit of fun doing this… I may have to use this from now on!

Telandria Moonbright, an elven sorceress, wants to raise a family, but her previous life as the leader of a famous group of dragon slayers has ramifications she is unaware of.

This is what my outline looks like right now, but I’m thinking I may need to add some stuff to the middle to make it more exciting… Anyway…

Have you used this outline? Why or why not? Wow! That sounded like a test question, didn’t it? Okay, so give me your thoughts on this outline and how my story is looking, please.

What I said

I said that I would use this guide to outlining by Chris Andrews when I got an idea for a story. Well, I got an idea for a story. It was flimsy to say the least. I wanted to create a story where humanoid kind had to work with dragons to save the dragons and the worlds magic. That was the idea to start with…

What I did

I began to work it out the way I normally do, then I remembered I needed to outline because I’m working now and I may need to take a few days off from writing in order to work…

What I’ve done

Return of the Dragons Outline is what I’ve named the outline, maybe the book. Who knows! Right now, it’s just an idea I’m playing with. It may work out, it may not…

Who’s it about?

Telandria Moonbright, a female elven sorceress

What do they want?

Find a husband and raise some kids while working on her sorcery

Who or what is preventing them from getting it?

She is the reincarnation of the leader of the dragon slayers that forced the dragons to extinction

I wrote it in sentence form:

Telandria Moonbright, an elven sorceress, wants to raise a family with all her heart, but her previous life as the leader of a group of dragon slayers has ramifications she is just now learning about.

I don’t know about you, but I feel a bit silly at this point. How can you outline a story using sequences? Augh!

Okay, so maybe this will work…

That’s it for today. I have to get ready for work. I, also, have to take care of Momma before work, so I can work! lol

Yes, I still take care of my Momma. She continues to decline, but that is just they way of things with her diagnosis’. They don’t get better, they just keep getting worse.

I love to hear from ya’ll. Please, leave a comment or question or whatever below! Have you tried this outline? Do you have your own outline you use? What is it? Let’s chat!

This is Chris Andrews Image and I have no rights to it at all!

This is Chris Andrews Image and I have no rights to it at all!

Before I start this post, I want to let you all know that I have some great stuff coming up! Oh! Yeah! I’ve got a new story I’m working on and you get to follow along! From idea, through part of the outline, the premise, and all the little tidbits I can share without giving it all away.

Shout out

First, I want to send a big shout out to Chris Andrews! He gave me an outline I can, not only understand, but I can follow it too!

Well, before you start thinking,’ Well, what’s the big deal about that?’ You should know I was a die hard pantser. A pantser is someone who starts writing the story without any idea of where it’s going. They learn along the way what’s going to happen.

This worked for me for many years, but, when my computer crashed, I lost the zest for writing. I know that sounds pretty “sensitive” of me. You have to understand, though. I lost one story nearly ready for publication, to novella’s is nearly ready for publication. This was a crushing blow, because it was all my fault. I was the idiot who did not back up my stuff. Let that be a lesson to you, make sure you backup everything you need.

A plotter, which is what I’ve become, is someone who plans their story out. This allows them to make changes to the story, where it doesn’t really make sense, before they write 12 pages on it. Yes, I have done this.

Past lives reborn

This is the working title of my new story. In order to find out more, you’ll have to keep following my blog. I know that was shameless advertising. But somebody’s gotta do it, right?

I would love to know what you think about this title, but be sure to give me feedback all throughout these blog posts. I’m counting on you to let me know when I’ve gone too far or if the story just sounds stupid.

Next

You will never guess what I, finally, got recently. Oh! I’m too excited about it for words! I have wanted this for over three years and, now, I finally have it. I would love to give him a shout out, but I don’t have permission to use his name. He knows who he is, though.

Are you ready for this? Okay, here goes! Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking Home edition software! Yes! That’s right! That’s right! I’m using it right now. I’ve used it every day since I got it. It is the most useful writing tool I’ve ever gotten. Not many of you know this about me, but I have carpal tunnel syndrome in both my wrists. I have to wear braces when they hurt too bad which makes it hard to write. This software has been a savior in that area of my life.

Finally

You remember at the beginning of this post, when I said I would take you long with the writing journey of the story? The first couple of blog posts have, not only been written, but they’ve been scheduled for posting. That means, even if I get distracted or forget, you will still get the information.

As a side note

Mama gave me quite a scare this week. Starting Monday, she had some severe breathing problems. Finally convinced her to go to the emergency room on Thursday. We found out it was just her COPD flaring up. They gave her some new meds, which kinda sucks, but she is doing so much better.

School is out for Sportschick and  cowboy! Sports chick is in softball, to keep her busy. Cowboy is in T-ball to keep him busy. However, we all understand this is not going to be enough to keep them happy all summer long. I would appreciate any suggestions you may have to entertain a teenager and a young boy. Bigboy has started a new job, at a tire shop. This is great news! Now he has the find someone to watch his kids while he works. No latchkey kids for him. As I said before, this is a new relationship and I’m not sure I’m ready to babysit his kids, yet. Don’t get me wrong, they’re great kids! Just not sure how good of a sitter I am.

Thank you for following me along on this journey and I hope to hear from you. Without any comments below, I wonder if anyone reads my posts. So even if you just type “I read this”, I would feel a whole lot better.

Lately, I feel like the days have been moving past me at lightning speed

I don’t know if any of you know this already, but I’ve started learning how to be a copywriter. I’m learning through CopyBlogger. I’ve found it to be interesting and challenging. After all, I’m used to writing fantasy.

Momma has declined noticeably. She’s still, almost, the same as usual, but now she has trouble going anywhere at all. We used to be able to go places most of the time. Now, we stay home all but on the rare occasion.

We recently celebrated her 80th birthday and her seven years sobriety. I’m so proud of her!

Next week, I get to celebrate five months with my boyfriend! Yay!

Cowboy graduates today! Yay! Relax, he’s only graduating from one grade to another. At some point, I will remember what grades they are in….

Well, I’m going to go for now… I hope to catch up with ya’ll soon! Leave a comment or whatever below and I’ll get back to you!
